PRESS RELEASE 28 November 2006

Moyneyana Festival theme pays tribute to
100 YEARS OF SURF LIFESAVING

Image of Ray Stokie, Reg Harry and Greg DaltonFor one hundred years, Australia's trained surf lifesavers have been keeping our beaches safe. In that time, they have rescued more than 500,000 people and provided first aid to a million others. Of the 113,000+ members, more than 34,000 actively patrol our beaches.

A surf lifesaver is a person who demonstrates the character, skill and service that epitomises the best of the Australian culture. Surf lifesavers give their time as volunteers in the service of their communities. They are fit, skilled, team oriented and adaptable Australian s of whom we all are proud.
