About the Competition

The Annual BooBook Award challenges authors to write a short story inspired by a single image. The image is displayed, on the internet, on a specified date and authors have a limited period in which to write and submit their manuscript. Entry is open to anyone willing to accept the challenge.

This year the competition is based on a photograph by renowned photographer Richard Crawley.

Competition Format, Rules and Conditions

Stories will be judged and chosen for inclusion in the Anthology as those most creatively inspired by the picture.

The Winning Entry will be presented with the ‘BooBook’ Award – an original art piece by one of Port Fairy’s acclaimed artists –

Selected Submissions to be published in the Port Fairy Ex Libris anthology – The BooBook, 2002 –

Benefits to those selected for inclusion:

Ø Entry and biography published in promoted Anthology - The BooBook 2002
Ø Story remains in author’s copyright
Ø Free copy of Anthology containing all selected entries
Ø Significant discount on books for self-promotion and gifts
Ø Press release to each writer’s local media
Ø Advice to help you publicise yourself as a published writer
Ø Having made a significant contribution to a worthy cause

Contest Format, rules and conditions:

Format:

Ø 2 hardcopies printed on one side of A4 white paper and text file on either 3.5” disk or CD.

Cover Page – Centre story title on page in large bold type (18pt)

Ø Show word count (up to 3500 words)
Ø Do not include name or address details on cover page

Text pages

Ø Font size 12pt
Ø Margins minimum 1 inch
Ø Page number, and story title on top right corner
Ø All story lines double spaced

Rules:

Ø Stories are to be inspired by the selected painting as published on www.port-fairy.com/exlibris on 1 December 2001. It is understood that the story will not have been prewritten or commenced prior to the time of the publication of the painting
Ø Word limit is maximum 3500 words
Ø Limit of entries is 2 stories per writer
Ø Enclose stamped self addressed envelope for return of manuscript
Ø Entries postmarked later than 1st March 2002 will not be accepted

Conditions:

Ø Entry fee is $15.00 per story submitted
Ø A separate registration form is to be submitted with each story
Ø Winning entries must remain unpublished elsewhere until after The BooBook, 2002 (Ex Libris Anthology) is printed
Ø The Writer is solely and totally responsible for entry contents
Ø Contest judges reserve the right to disqualify unacceptable manuscripts for content or format
Ø Judges decision is final
Ø Winners will be announced during the 2002 Port Fairy Ex Libris Book Fair
Ø Manuscripts not returned to the writer will be destroyed once the contest details are completed
